Tehditlere daha fazla dayanamadılar! S-400 alımında geri adım attılar
Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nin yaptırım tehdidiyle karşı karşıya kalan Hindistan, Rusya’dan S-400 hava savunma sistemlerinin yerine ABD’den Patriot almak için görüşmelere başladı.

5.4 milyar dolar değerinde olduğu söylenen anlaşma, Hindistan’a 5 adet S-400 bataryası gönderilmesini öngörüyordu.
ABD, Rusya yapımı bir hava savunma sistemi alması halinde Hindistan’ı, ABD’nin Hasımlarıyla Yaptırımlar Yoluyla Mücadele Etme Yasası (CAATSA) üzerinden cezalandırmakla tehdit ediyordu.
Bu tehditler işe yaradı. Hindistan geri adım atarak S400’lerden vazgeçti.

Οι αρχηγοί του Πενταγώνου και ο Patrick Shanahan, στις 9 Μαΐου, παρουσίασαν στον Πρόεδρο των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, Donald Trump, σχέδιο για την αποστολή 120.000 στρατευμάτων στη Μέση Ανατολή, όπως ανέφεραν οι New York Times… (Σχ. ε/φ των “ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΚΩΝ”). Αυτό θα συμβεί εάν το Ιράν επιταχύνει την ανάπτυξη πυρηνικών όπλων ή επιτεθεί σε δυνάμεις των ΗΠΑ στον Περσικό Κόλπο. (Σχ. Δεν είμαι και τόσο σίγουρος ότι μόνον τότε θα στείλουν τη δύναμη αυτή οι Τούρκοι)!
Σύμφωνα με την ε/φ NYT, το σχέδιο αναπτύχθηκε υπό την πίεση των “γερακιών”, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του συμβούλου του Trump για την εθνική ασφάλεια, John Bolton.
Ο προτεινόμενος αριθμός της δύναμης «σόκαρε” πολλούς που γνωρίζουν το σχέδιο, επειδή περίπου ο ίδιος αριθμός στρατιωτών των ΗΠΑ είχε σταλεί στο Ιράκ, το 2003. Εκτιμάται ότι μια επιχείρηση κατά του Ιράν θα απαιτήσει ακόμη περισσότερα αμερικανικά στρατεύματα.
Ο Αμερικανός ηγέτης προειδοποίησε επανειλημμένα το Ιράν για τις αρνητικές συνέπειες που θα έχει, αν αναπτύξει το πυρηνικό του πρόγραμμα. “Αν κάνουν κάτι, θα υποφέρουν πολύ“, απείλησε ο Trump.
Ήταν ο ιδιοκτήτης του Λευκού Οίκου που ακύρωσε την “πυρηνική συμφωνία” με το Ιράν, και η Τεχεράνη μετά απείλησε την περασμένη εβδομάδα, ότι θα αρχίσει πάλι να εμπλουτίζει ουράνιο, εάν δεν του δοθούν οικονομικές εγγυήσεις!..
Οι Ιρανοί έδωσαν δύο μήνες διορία στους Ευρωπαίους, (λοιπά συμβαλλόμενα μέρη στην υπόψη συμφωνία), για να σκεφτούν. Οι Ευρωπαίοι το χαρακτήρισαν αυτό εκβιασμό και ζήτησαν από την Τεχεράνη να συνεχίσει να τηρεί τις υποχρεώσεις της.
Οι Αμερικανοί ενισχύουν σαφώς την παρουσία τους στην περιοχή, προκειμένου να ασκήσουν πίεση στην Τεχεράνη. Νωρίτερα αυτό το μήνα, οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες έστειλαν μια ναυτική “ομάδα ενεργείας” (“naval task force”) με επικεφαλής τον αερομεταφορέα “Αβραάμ Λίνκολν” και μια ομάδα τακτικής βομβιστικής επίθεσης, στη Μέση Ανατολή. Επίσης, τα στρατηγικά βομβαρδιστικά αεροσκάφη της αμερικανικής Πολεμικής Αεροπορίας B-52H Stratofortress έχουν ξεκινήσει κανονικές πτήσεις στην περιοχή του Περσικού Κόλπου κοντά στα σύνορα του Ιράν.
Στην ίδια την Τεχεράνη, δεν υποκύπτουν στην αμερικανική πίεση και απειλούν να δώσουν ένα «χτύπημα στο κεφάλι» στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες εάν η Ουάσιγκτον λάβει μέτρα ενάντια στο Ιράν. Αυτό ανακοινώθηκε πρόσφατα από τον ταξίαρχο της Ιρανικής “Ισλαμικής Επαναστατικής Φρουράς”, Amir-Ali Hadjizade. “Αν (οι Αμερικανοί) κάνουν ένα βήμα, θα τους χτυπήσουμε στο κεφάλι”, δήλωσε ο Hajizade.
Ωστόσο, στην Τεχεράνη κάθε φορά που μιλάνε για την απροθυμία τους να συμμετάσχουν σε πόλεμο με τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, παράλληλα υπόσχονται να υπερασπιστούν τον εαυτό τους, εάν η Ουάσινγκτον αρχίσει τις συγκρούσεις.
Ο Φιόδωρ Λουκάνοφ, πρόεδρος του Προεδρείου του “Συμβουλίου Εξωτερικής και Αμυντικής Πολιτικής”, υπενθυμίζει ότι συζητήσεις για στρατιωτική επιχείρηση κατά του Ιράν γίνονται εδώ και πολλά χρόνια. Πιο κοντά, (σε σχέση με τους άλλους Προέδρους), σε έναν τέτοιον πόλεμο ήταν ο Αμερικανός Πρόεδρος Τζωρτζ Μπους.
“Οι Αμερικανοί άρχισαν να αναλύουν το ποιός συγκεκριμένα θα ήταν αυτός ο πόλεμος, μαζί με όλους τους ειδικούς και πάνω απ ‘όλα τους τεχνοκράτες, αλλά η τότε CIA ήταν αντίθετη με πολεμική επχ-ση κατά του Ιράν. Η κλιμάκωση αυτής της σύγκρουσης θα είναι πολύ δύσκολο να ελεγχθεί και οι συνέπειές της είναι πρακτικά απρόβλεπτες”, δήλωσε ο Λουκάνοφ στην εφημερίδα “VIEW”.
Το Ιράν θα είναι δυσκολότερος αντίπαλος για τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, απ’ ότι ήταν το Ιράκ, προειδοποίησε ο πρόεδρος της “Επιτροπής Ομοσπονδιακού Συμβουλίου για την Πολιτική Πληροφόρησης”, Αλεξέι Πούσκωφ. Υπενθύμισε (στο Twitter) ότι “το 2003, ο αντιπρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ (Dick) Cheney είχε δηλώσει:
“Ήρθε η ώρα να πάρουμε το Ιράκ“! Τότε, πράγματι «το πήραν», αλλά αργότερα «δεν ήξεραν πώς να το εγκαταλείψουν».
Τώρα, σύμφωνα με τον Πούσκωφ, τον ρόλο του Cheney έχει ο Μπόλτον, ο οποίος καλεί για επχ-ση κατά του Ιράν.

HOW TO DEFEAT TEHRAN’S ISLAMIC REPUBLIC
America must have the will to do it.
My friend Eli Lake believes that the Trump Iran Policy (aka “maximum pressure”) is working and should be embraced by the Europeans. By “working” he means that tougher sanctions will force the mullahs back to the negotiating table, and produce a better deal.
By waging economic war on Iran, the president is using the same tactics that pressured the regime into nuclear negotiations in the first place. Despite the PR campaign from Iran’s foreign ministry, the evidence shows that threats and pressure work against the Islamic Republic. This time around, Trump and his cabinet have vowed that any negotiations will also address Iran’s support for terrorism and its missile proliferation, along with regional meddling.
I think Eli has Trump right, but he’s got the history wrong. I think the Iranians agreed to the negotiations with Obama when they concluded that the Americans had no will to challenge the Tehran regime, and that any deal reached with Obama would be very favorable to the mullahs. And they were right on both counts. Indeed, they were righter than they dared dream. Throughout the negotiations, Obama/Kerry repeatedly introduced concessions the Iranians hadn’t even asked for, and the final deal gave Tehran enormous wiggle room. As we now know, thanks to Israeli spies (NOT our own intelligence), the Islamic Republic cheated on the nuclear weapons all along, as we should expect in the event of any new arrangement. Nonetheless, Trump is indeed pushing for new negotiations, even publicly giving Khamenei the best phone number to use whenever they’re ready.
I am afraid this means that we have sent the mullahs the same mistaken message Obama did: we are not prepared to undertake regime change in Iran, no matter how many carriers we send to the Gulf, and only a campaign of regime change will accomplish what should be our mission: the defeat of the Islamic Republic. Instead, we are ratcheting up economic sanctions and “deterring” what are said to be Iranian plans to attack American targets in the region.
And there’s the rub; there is no sign we really want to change the Tehran regime, even though the country is in turmoil, even though there are daily demonstrations in all areas of the country, from the factories to the bazaars, among all classes, tribes and faiths. I don’t know why Trump doesn’t embrace this stratagem. The United States is the only truly revolutionary country in this world, and Trump often sounds like he understands it. Bolton and Pompeo do too. For America to be truly great again means that America must have the will to reshape the world, to topple our enemies and bring freedom to their oppressed peoples. It is a world tailor-made for revolution, the American Revolution. Look at Venezuela, look at the outbreak of anti-regime demonstrations in Cuba, where gay protests have erupted. Imagine!
I think that Trump would make an admirable revolutionary leader, in many ways he has done that here at home. And I think he’d love it. I certainly would.

TLAIB’S MORBID FANTASIES OF A PALESTINIAN “SAFE HAVEN” FOR JEWS
Nancy Pelosi – Where are you?
Palestinian-American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., is standing by her latest hate-filled statement, which is based on a monstrous falsehood. She said that she has a “kind of calming feeling” when she thinks about the Holocaust because her Palestinian “ancestors” tried “to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time.” In the same interview by hosts Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman, Rep. Tlaib complained, according to her one-sided Palestinian victimhood narrative, “that it was my ancestors, Palestinians, who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways…”
Rep. Tlaib’s Palestinian “ancestors” were in fact amongst the enthusiastic boosters of the Nazi genocide machine during World War II. Palestinian leaders sought to carry on the plan to exterminate as many of the Jews as possible who had managed to escape the Holocaust and reach the Holy Land following the war. Instead of accepting the original two-state solution proposed by the United Nations more than seven decades ago under which the Palestinians could have been living in their own independent state all this time, their leadership rejected the idea of a Jewish state existing side by side in peace with a Palestinian state.
President Trump correctly admonished Rep. Tlaib, tweeting “Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her horrible and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust. She obviously has tremendous hatred of Israel and the Jewish people.” Bernie Sanders rushed to her defense. Senator Sanders tweeted that President Trump should apologize for “taking Rep. @RashidaTlaib’s comments out of context.” This is the same man who said the Boston Marathon terrorist bomber should have the “right” to vote from jail.
Meanwhile, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic leadership in the House are running for cover. They are allowing the recurrent trashing of the Jewish state by the newly elected Muslim members of their caucus to go unpunished. Falsifying history to serve the Palestinian propaganda narrative is yet another display of anti-Semitism. Here are some facts that Pelosi and her colleagues are choosing to ignore by their failure to act decisively against the anti-Semites in their midst.
Haj Amin al-Husseini, the former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem who was considered the father of Palestinian nationalism, sought an alliance with Adolf Hitler from the time of Hitler’s early days in power, and continued his collaboration after the British exiled him to Iraq in 1938. Haj Amin al-Husseini visited Hitler and his henchmen, including Heinrich Himmler, the architect of the Final Solution, in Berlin in 1941. Hitler himself assured his guest that Germany wanted “the destruction of the Jewish element residing in the Arab sphere.” Al-Husseini spread Nazi propaganda and recruited Islamic youth to serve in the Germany military. He also sought to block the transport of Jewish children to the Holy Land. Himmler sent al-Husseini a letter in 1943 declaring that the “National-Socialist movement of greater Germany has made its fight against world Jewry a guiding principle since its very beginning.” Himmler added, “For that reason it has been closely following the battle of freedom-seeking Arabs—and especially in Palestine—against the Jewish invaders” and sent the Palestinian leader his “warm wishes for the continuation of your battle until the big victory.”
After the end of World War II, there was no Palestinian offer of “safe haven for Jews” in the Holy Land as Rep. Tlaib falsely claimed. The British authorities, while they were still in charge of the “Mandate for Palestine,” sided with Arab demands and placed significant restrictions on Jewish emigration from post-War Europe to the Holy Land. Refugee ships were turned back. Some Jews trying to enter the historic Jewish homeland were placed in internment camps. Haj Amin al-Husseini was anointed by the Arab League as the leader of the Palestinian Arabs, although he remained outside of the territory to avoid capture. Al-Husseini brooked no dissent from his extreme anti-Jewish position. On November 23, 1946, Fauzi Darwish el-Husseini, a relative of Haj Amin al-Husseini but an opponent of his who had sought reconciliation with Jews in the Holy Land, was assassinated.
Meanwhile, following years spent in exile in neighboring countries after participating in armed rebellions during the 1930’s against the British in the Palestinian territory then under British control, a leading militant by the name of Abd al-Qadir al-Husseini began working to smuggle arms into the Palestinian territory. He snuck back into the territory himself in December 1947. Abd al-Qadir al-Husseini soon took command of the Army of Holy War, which launched several military operations against Jewish forces in Jerusalem. These attacks included blowing up the Jewish Agency headquarters in Jerusalem, killing 12 and injuring 86 Jewish civilians. They occurred after the United Nations General Assembly had recommended in November 1947 a partition of the land inhabited by Jews and Palestinian Arabs. Jews accepted the UN proposal. The Palestinians and their supporters in neighboring Arab nations rejected it. In April 1948, Abd al-Qadir al-Husseini was killed during a battle and was lionized as a hero by many in the Arab world. When Israel declared its independence in May 1948, Palestinians, joined by armies of their neighboring Arab countries, launched a war against the Jews. This apparently is Rep. Tlaib’s perverted notion of her ancestors’ efforts “to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust.”
Rep. Tlaib whined that her latest words regarding the Holocaust and its aftermath were being twisted in order “to ignite vile attacks” on her and “silence” her. No, Rep. Tlaib, your words were quoted in context. Your own words show how you have inherited from your Palestinian “ancestors” the hatred for Jews living in their historic homeland that animated your ancestors’ alliance with the Nazis. With very few exceptions, your ancestors, like the Palestinian terrorists today, sought to create a graveyard for Jews before, during and after World War II, not a “safe haven.”

HOW A US CITIZEN MAY SOON CONTROL LIBYA
The fascinating rise to power of a CIA asset and ISIS hunter.
As evermore congressional hearings dominate American headlines, a shadowy leader and a massive new offensive are quietly engulfing Africa’s most oil-rich country. In a place already marred by violence, this is different. The new operation began in March and is both larger and better coordinated than anything since the 2011 revolution. Having already secured the nation’s largest oil terminals, A force of 60,000 well-equipped men are now attacking the gates of Tripoli, threatening the UN-backed government forces defending the city. If their successful, this could dramatically change the balance of power and US interests in the region.
Much of the world seems split on the situation or unaware it is happening. Egypt, the UAE, and Moscow are supporting the offensive. France and Italy- whom both have competing oil interests in Libya- have divided the EU on the matter. The UN has predictably condemned the offensive but offered no tangible solution. Meanwhile, the State Dept called for an “immediate halt to these military operations against the Libyan Capital” the same week as President Trump praised the leader behind it.
The attack is being led by a former CIA asset and US citizen with a storied past. He is someone that Al-Qaeda has called “an enemy of Islam”. An old Gadhafi loyalist turned revolutionary and cunning enemy to ISIS. The polarizing figure who has helped both unify and divide modern Libya. He is managing to attack an internationally recognized government with Russian weapons and the complicity of everyone else- but who is he?
A man long prepared to exploit the chaos: “Field Marshall “Khalifa Haftar.
Background
Post Gadhafi Libya has been a free for all since 2011. Quickly swept up in the “Arab Spring”, the authoritarian state soon found itself in a bitterly contested civil war. But not even NATO involvement or a swift end to the 42-year dictatorship could bring about peace. Whatever unified power the opposition had would fragment to the local militia, tribal councils, and Islamic groups.
Warring factions just picked up where the civil war left off, and violence soon renewed. It was in this lawless, post-revolution environment that US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three CIA contractors were killed in the now infamous Sept 11, 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.
Rather than defend US interests, the Obama Administration and the State Department under Hillary Clinton began to distance itself from the country. Most European nations followed suit -and though never officially abandoned- Libya became less strategically important than other growing conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere.
Human smugglers and Islamic militants both exploited the void. Making this sparsely populated country (Less than 7 million people in an area 3 times the size of Texas) a hotbed of both. ISIS managed to take over entire cities and briefly enjoyed their largest territory outside of Syria and Iraq. Libya’s vast port system, proximity to Europe, and lack of border enforcement also made it the perfect launching pad for the migrant crisis which soon followed.
Any state control shifted like sand across the Sahara. The UN-Backed “Government of National Accord” (currently) run the west of the country from Tripoli. Meanwhile the “House of Representatives” (to which Haftar is aligned) govern most of the east from Tobruk. The two have a tumultuous comingled past and are not the only actors on the ground. It would take several books to explain the complexities of Libyan politics, but for all intents and purposes, the GNA and the HOR represent the different factions.
A unique backstory
Although a major player in post-revolution Libya, Haftar is still little-known outside of the country.
Not your average warlord, he is a man as complex as the north African nation itself. The dual US-Libyan citizen -who presently controls more than 75% of Libyan territory- was born in 1943 in the city of Ajdabiya, along the Mediterranean. After graduating from the Benghazi Military Academy in 1966, Haftar began his career as a young officer in the army under King Idris. He went on to take part in Gadhafi’s 1969 coup against the monarch, earning a special place among the Dictators inter circle.
His early years in the new “Libyan Arab Republic” were colorful. Politically, he became an adherent to both the socialism and Arab Nationalism which spread through the region. As a soldier, he was sent to the Soviet Union for specialized training and fought in the 1973 Yom Kippur. His ambitions now firmly tied to Gadhafi, he remained loyal through several counter-coup attempts to oust the dictator.
Haftar rose to the rank of colonel and by the early 80s, all seemed well for him. That was until Libyan forces began to lose ground in an ongoing conflict with Chad. After France (the former Colonial power) stepped up their assistance to the Chadian armed forces, the Libyans began to fall back. Haftar was captured in 1987 along with several hundred of his men. A furious Gadhafi -who also might have viewed the charismatic young Colonel as a threat- disavowed him and the soldiers under his command. Left to rot as a POW, the disgraced officer swore revenge and thus began a long, complicated road back to Tripoli.
It may not be a coincidence then that Haftar recently gave himself the rank of “Field Marshall” in Tobruk, the very city which helped turn Erwin Rommel -the German Afrika Corps Commander with the same title- into a legend. Indeed, his life bears two major similarities to his WW11 Counterpart. Both military Officers who served the wishes of flamboyant dictators- and each found themselves forsaken by their leaders. Rommel to be killed on orders of Hitler and Haftar to be disavowed on foreign soil by Gadhafi.
Unable to freely return home, he was eventually able to flee to Zaire and then Kenya. It was soon demanded that he be returned to Libya as a prisoner. The US intervened however and (seeing the potential value in Haftar) the CIA arranged refugee visas for him and 300 of his men. A comfortable twenty-year US residency for the Libyan Colonel followed. He was given full US Citizenship, raised a family, and lived along the DC beltway, just a stone throw from Langley and the Pentagon. Although remaining active in a small revolutionary group known as the “National Front for the Salvation of Libya”, it seems he spent most of these two decades just living a comfortable American life.
When the cold war ended, so too did the importance of Libya in being a key Soviet ally. Mr. Haftar’s relevance as an asset faded and he may have easily spent his golden years peacefully. That was until a wave of popular discontent swept through the Arab world. With the hint of revolution in his homeland and the possibility of revenge, the aging 68-year-old former soldier decided to return.
Coming out of retirement
Arriving a month after the uprising against the Jamahiriya Government began, He was soon named a Lieutenant General in the small but growing oppositions forces and their National Transitional Council. NATO became actively involved on the NTC’s side and Mr. Haftar suddenly found himself a useful power broker for the west once more.
From 2012-2017 Libyan governments formed and then fragmented, separating the country between east and west. Haftar rose to become head of the new Libyan National Army, which is connected to the HOR in Tobruk. Meanwhile, several militias merge with the GNA in Tripoli to become a rival force. The lucrative “Oil Crescent” and most of the country’s 48.4 billion barrels of crude lie between them.
Both sides end up fighting IS and other militants but its Haftar’s forces who earn the most international recognition doing so. On May 16, 2014, He launches “Operation Dignity” to begin clearing “Terrorists” from Benghazi and other cities. The successful operation decimates both IS elements as well as Ansar Al-Sharia- the group behind the 9/11 US consulate attack. In response, a suicide bomber attempts to assassinate the General by charging his compound in an explosive-laden Land Rover. The attack kills two of his guards but leaves Haftar unscathed.
Fast forward to 2018, and most civilians have been fed up with the widespread corruption and lawlessness. Haftar -after launching one prior failed coup attempt on live television- tries his hand at diplomacy. He goes on a PR Campaign and spends several months conducting a town hall-style tour through much of Libya. The strong persona he evokes appeals to the public’s longing for a unifying force. He also reaches out to various militia -some of them even Salafists groups- to bring them under the umbrella of the LNA. In the early months of 2019, his charm offensive goes overseas. He is reported to have also visited Russia, The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in search of weapons and support.
Call with Trump
After a call between Trump and Haftar on April 15th, the White House released a statement that the President “Recognized Field Marshall Haftar’s significant Role in fighting terrorism and securing Libya’s oil resources, and the two discussed a shared vision for Libya’s transition to a stable, democratic political system”.
Although not officially endorsing Haftar’s advance on Tripoli, many read the timing of this comment to mean the US is not going to intervene on behalf of the UN-backed Government either.
If Haftar’s forces do manage to secure Tripoli and the rest of the country, a dramatically different Libya may take root. Details are murky on his and the HOR’s ultimate goals or potential relations with the west. For the time being, they just portray the offensive itself as necessary to clear out terrorists and corruption. In early April, Haftar released an audio message on the LNA’s Facebook page declaring the purpose of the operation was to “shake the lands under the feet of the unjust bunch”.
Haftar’s actions could have a long-lasting Geopolitical impact
While the US withdraws special operations troops from Tripoli and western Europe openly squabbles over the situation, Russia seems poised to quietly exploit it. AFRICOM Commander- Gen. Waldhauser, appealed to Congress about the matter last month, warning the armed services committee on March 5th that:
Behind the scenes there’s no doubt about the fact they’ve (the Russians) supported the (LNA) with all kinds of equipment, people, training and the like and they’ve supported Haftar, who has moved now from the east to the west and essentially has taken a lot of real estate to get into a good position for leverage for diplomatic talks,
With this new-found relationship comes a possible strategic partner for Moscow- directly on NATO’s southern perimeter. There are even reports the Kremlin is seeking to set up long-term bases in west Libya. The Marine Corps General went on to warn:
It gives them influence and it gives him influence in a key location in the southern Mediterranean on the southern part of the NATO if you will, and it allows them then to reinvigorate some old Gaddafi-era contracts in the oilfield weapon sales and the like. So, there’s a strategic interest for them to be behind both sides, but primarily really Haftar.
End game
Haftar’s opposition in Tripoli claims he is merely a power-hungry strongman. They point out that the timing of his offensive coincides with Ramadan and upcoming UN peace talks, at which he would now clearly have leverage. His detractors warn that the complicity of the world could be just inviting another dictatorship.
Whatever happens, it appears that outside powers don’t have the stomach to intervene this time around. The future of Libya seems destined to be decided between Libyans. Perhaps this is precisely the moment the Field Marshall has been plotting all along.
There could be a lot of opportunity for progress in the chaos. Though a failed state today, the west should not overlook Libya’s strategic potential again. If Haftar is able to bring stability (and not as a tyrant), that could mean a better life for 7 million Libyans, lower oil prices, fewer migrants crossing the Mediterranean illegally, and one less terrorist haven in the world.
That is all leverage he may soon be able to bring to the table.
Those in power might already see this. If the Haftar-Trump phone call was any indication, the US and a new Libya could have what the Whitehouse called a “Shared Vision” for the future.

Islamic Jihad: Big Attack on Israel Will Be in the Summer
Israel and Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, are in the process on ironing out the details of a long-term ceasefire, which would entail an Israeli ease on the restrictions on Gaza in return for a cessation of the violence emanating for Gaza.
In the meantime, Islamic Jihad leader Ziad Nahle told the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen news in an interview last week that he foresees an all-encompassing war with Israel that would include rocket fire on all Israeli cities.
The 60-hour Islamic Jihad attack on Israel last week got as far north as Be’er Sheba, but did not include Tel Aviv and its environs.
Nahle further claimed that Israel requested the ceasefire ahead of its Independence Day celebrations. Other reports say that it was Hamas that begged for the ceasefire following the significant blows Israel inflicted on it.
Relating to his organization’s cooperation with Hamas, Nahle said that the two groups coordinated all actions. “The Hamas and Islamic Jihad work shoulder to shoulder,” he said.

Poland cancels Israeli delegation’s visit to discuss Holocaust reparations
On Saturday, thousands of Polish nationalists marched to the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, protesting that the U.S. is putting pressure on Poland to compensate Jews whose families lost property during the Holocaust.
Poland views itself as a victim of the Holocaust and not a perpetrator. In 2012, then President Barack Obama caused a diplomatic incident when he referred to a Nazi death camp as a “Polish death camp,” bringing a blistering rebuke from Poland’s prime minister at the time, Donald Tusk.
Yesterday, Israel’s Ministry for Social Equality announced the coming departure of the delegation, which would be led by the ministry’s director-general, Avi Cohen Scali.
The announcement read, “The government of Israel views the restoration of the Jewish property and the promotion of Holocaust survivors’ rights as a moral imperative of the Jewish state. No factor, political or anti-Semitic, will stop us from carrying out this important order … The hourglass is running out, and we must act more vigorously before it is too late.”
According to the Walla! news site, Labor Knesset Member Itzik Shmuli took the opportunity to blame the Netanyahu administration. MK Shmuli, who chairs the Pensioners and Holocaust Survivors Caucus, said following the news of Poland’s cancellation, “Anyone willing to negotiate with the Poles about the very memory of the Holocaust should not be surprised that in the end we will be humiliated by the Poles.”
Blue-and-White Party co-leader Yair Lapid, tweeted, “Once again the Polish government embarrasses the government of Israel regarding the memory of the Holocaust. It started with the Holocaust-denial law, and has now reached the issue of property restitution (about which one could say ‘you murdered and inherited’).”
The Holocaust-Denial law to which MK Lapid referred was passed by the Polish parliament last year and criminalized any accusation that Poland was complicit in the Holocaust. The law was later amended to make any offenses civil, and not criminal, offenses.
In June, 2018, the Netanyahu administration came under criticism for a joint statement with Poland about the Holocaust. Yad Vashem, the official memorial to the Holocaust in Israel, issued a statement in its wake, saying “”A thorough review by Yad Vashem historians shows that the historical assertions, presented as unchallenged facts, in the joint statement contain grave errors and deception.”

The Lawfare Project Opens New Anti-Semitism Case Against Kuwait Airways
The Lawfare Project, a non-profit legal litigation fund committed to protecting the civil and human rights of Jewish communities worldwide, has filed a new case May 13 against Kuwait Airways in Germany, over the airline’s policy of anti-Semitic discrimination.
A Frankfurt-based Israeli businessman, known as Shmuel M in the case, booked a flight from Munich to Sri Lanka in November 2018 and was denied the right to travel because of his Israeli passport.
When Shmuel M asked about the availability of kosher food on the flight the airline asked whether he held an Israeli passport. When he said he did, he was told that he wouldn’t be able to travel and would need to speak with the airline’s lawyers for further information.
According to The Lawfare Project, this is the second time they have represented Israelis barred from traveling in Germany by Kuwait Airways. A previous case from 2017 involved the same discriminatory policy in Germany and remains under review by Germany’s Constitutional High Court.
“Time and again Kuwait Airways has shown itself to be a bigoted airline with a bigoted policy that should have no place in a modern liberal democracy. An airline that kicks Israelis off planes should be kicked out of Germany,” Brooke Goldstein, Executive Director of The Lawfare Project, the legal think tank and litigation fund representing the plaintiff, said in a statement to the Journal. “When a Jewish passenger is denied the right to travel after requesting a kosher meal, in Germany of all places, then anyone who respects the values of equality, fairness, and the rule of law should be appalled.”
Kuwait Airways has previously justified its racist discrimination by citing a Kuwaiti law that is decades old which bans all Kuwaiti citizens and companies from doing any business with citizens of the Jewish state.
“If Kuwait Airways wishes to continue operating in Germany then the message should be clear: carry everyone or carry no one,” Lawfare Project’s German Counsel representative Nathan Gelbart said in a statement. “There can be no discrimination against Jews on German soil. The Lawfare Project in the past pressured Kuwait Airways in the U.S. and Switzerland which led to the airline canceling its NYC-London flights, and all its inter-European flights, rather than deal with its discriminatory practices.
The case has been filed at the Landshut District Court, which has jurisdiction over Munich International Airport. Kuwait Airways has yet to reply to the claims listed.

Auschwitz Condemns Online Store for Selling Clothes Containing Nazi Death Camp Images.
Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum required online marketplace, Redbubble, to remove items May 7 and prohibit the selling of products bearing photos of the concentration camp located in Poland.
Products— including tight miniskirts, tote bags and throw pillows—contained images of the brutal Nazi death camp scene. Imprinted on the items for sale were photos of an electronic fence, guardhouse and train tracks that contributed to the murder of millions of Jews and other minorities during the Holocaust.
In response to the items, Auschwitz Memorial tweeted, “Do you really think that selling such products as pillows, mini skirts or tote bags with the images of Auschwitz – a place of enormous human tragedy where over 1.1 million people were murdered – is acceptable? This is rather disturbing and disrespectful.”
Redbubble quickly responded to the Auschwitz Memorial’s complaint by thanking them for bringing it to their attention and agreeing that the controversial items disobeyed the online company’s community and content guidelines.

The online retailer tweeted: “We are taking immediate action to remove these and similar works available on these product types.
According to the Washington Post, a Redbubble spokeswoman stated, “Redbubble takes a strong stance against racism and violence, including the atrocities committed in Nazi concentration camps, and scan specifically for this type of content daily.”
“We have taken immediate action to remove the works identified by The Auschwitz Memorial, and apologize that it was necessary,” the spokeswoman continued. “We are continuously working to ensure that we are able to keep offending content of this nature off of Redbubble and will be further adjusting our policies moving forward.”
Since Redbubble users are authorized to upload their own innovative items, the online retailer does not approve each product before it becomes public on the site. Users are expected to responsibly upload items that align with the website’s guidelines.
Auschwitz Memorial continuously takes action to ensure that such an atrocity is respected, and survivors are protected.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov this week, as the two countries clash over a number of issues including Venezuela, Iran, and Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.
Pompeo heads to Moscow Sunday, in his first visit to Russia as chief U.S. diplomat.
Top U.S. officials, including Pompeo and Vice President Mike Pence, have accused Russia of working against Venezuela’s democratically elected opposition leader Juan Guaido in his attempts to oust embattled President Nicolas Maduro.
The United States accuses Russia of seeking a foothold in the Western Hemisphere through Venezuela.
“We are concerned about Russia’s actions in Venezuela, and we think the support for Maduro is a losing bet. So our support to the Venezuelan people continues, and that will be a subject for the discussion,” a senior State Department official told reporters last week.
Pompeo arrives in Russia on Monday to meet with American diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow before meeting with U.S. business leaders. He will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in honor of those who fought against the Nazi regime.
The secretary of state will then travel to Sochi Tuesday for talks with Putin and Lavrov.
Pompeo’s trip comes a few weeks ahead of a G-20 summit meeting in Osaka, Japan, which both U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Putin will attend.
“It is in our interest to have a better relationship with Russia,” said the senior official. “When we have concerns, we’re going to raise them directly, narrow those differences and find areas we can cooperate.”
The official declined to comment on whether a meeting between Trump and Putin on the sidelines of the G-20 summit is being arranged.
The State Department says Pompeo is expected to bring up Americans being detained in Russia, including former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan and Michael Calvey, founder of the Moscow-based Baring Vostok private equity group.
Whelan was accused of espionage, a charge he denies. He is due to be kept in pre-trial detention until May 28 while the investigation continues.
Calvey was detained in February, pending a trial on embezzlement charges that he has denied. He says the case was being used to pressure him in a corporate dispute over control of a Russian bank.
“The administration places the highest priority on the safety and the welfare of U.S. citizens overseas. We stand ready to provide all appropriate consular services in cases where U.S. citizens are detained,” said the senior official.
Last month, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman visited Whelan in a Moscow jail. American diplomats have asked Russia to “stop playing games,” saying Russian officials are likely trying to get a forced false “confession” from Whelan.
Pompeo’s trip to Russia also comes as tensions simmer between the two countries over Iran.
The U.S. is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East in what officials said was a “direct response to a number of troubling and escalatory indicators and warnings” from Iran.
The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group and four B-52 bombers have arrived in the Middle East in response to concerns Iran may be planning an attack against American targets.
On Wednesday, Lavrov asked Pompeo to use diplomacy instead of threats to solve issues after Lavrov’s talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarifin Moscow.

Ένας από τους πρωτεργάτες της αντίστασης κατά της Χούντας στην Κρήτη, ο παπάς Πέτρος Γαβαλάς μιλά πριν από χρόνια για το πώς γνώρισε τον Ηρακλή Τσίπρα και τονίζει: «Ητο δυνατόν να είναι αντιστασιακός και να του δίνει τόσα δημόσια έργα η Χούντα η οποία δεν έδινε παρά μόνο στους δικούς της;»
To ηχητικό ντοκουμέντο διαρκεί περίπου 15 λεπτά, ο ήχος δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα καλός διότι έχει γίνει καταγραφή σε κασέτα πριν από πολλά χρόνια. Ομως, στο 3o λεπτό γίνεται η αφήγηση για τον Ηρακλή Τσίπρα που περιγράφεται και πιο κάτω.
Ο παπά Πέτρος αφηγείται πριν από χρόνια στον δημοσιογράφο Αντώνη Σπανουδάκη, γεγονότα που πραγματικά συγκλονίζουν αλλά και που δημιουργούν νέα ερωτήματα για την οικογένεια Τσίπρα.
Αλλά και προσθέτει στοιχεία για το ρόλο του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα την εποχή εκείνη, από έναν άνθρωπο που έζησε πρόσωπα και πράγματα. Ο παπά Πέτρος αφήνει σαφείς υπαινιγμούς για τον θείο του Αλέξη Τσίπρα.
«Δεν ήξερα αν θα έχουμε κάποια αντίδραση από τον ελληνικό λαό, όπως είχε δείξει στα Ιουλιανά. Όταν είδα όμως ότι δεν έγινε κάτι, άρχισαν να ετοιμάζομαι για μια οργάνωση αντιστασιακή.
Αυτό το έμαθαν οι άλλοι, Ξυλούρης, Πλεύρης, Φοίβος Ιωαννίδης που ήταν στη Δημοκρατική Αντίσταση Κρήτης. Έμαθαν από τον παπά Σταύρο ότι είχα περίπου 30 άτομα για αντίσταση και μου είχαν αναθέσει τον πρώτο ρόλο.
Ο παπά Σταύρος πώς επικοινώνησε, πώς γνωρίστηκε με τον Ηρακλή Τσίπρα, έναν άγνωστο, τον οποίο εγώ δεν είχα δει ποτέ άλλοτε. Είχα όμως εμπιστοσύνη στον παπά Σταύρο», λέει αρχικά.
Όπως αφηγείται ο παπά Πέτρος Γαβαλάς, κι εδώ έχει σημασία, ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας που έμενε στο Ηράκλειο, είχε πάρει πάρα πολλές εργασίες από τη Χούντα.
«Ήτο δυνατόν να είναι αντιστασιακός;»
«Με εκπλήσσει πολλές φορές πώς ο Πλεύρης, ο Ξυλούρης (σ.σ. ήταν βουλευτές) και ο Φοίβος Ιωαννίδης, τον είχαν πιστέψει. Ήτο δυνατόν να είναι αντιστασιακός και να του δίνει τόσα δημόσια έργα η Χούντα η οποία δεν έδινε παρά μόνο στους δικούς της; Δεν τον γνώριζα τον άνθρωπο, παρά μόνο όταν ήρθε την παραμονή της επετείου του Αλβανικού Πολέμου, στις 27 Οκτωβρίου 1967, και μου έφερε δύο βιβλία για τη βιβλιοθήκη που είχα φτιάξει».
Με την αναφορά του αυτή ο παπά Πέτρος ενισχύει τους ισχυρισμούς ενός κεντρικού προσώπου της αντίστασης στην Κρήτη, του Φοίβου Ιωαννίδη, ο οποίος έγραψε στα «ΝΕΑ» άρθρο στο οποίο τόνιζε:
«Εχω αναφερθεί δημόσια, ερωτώμενος, στον ρόλο του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα, θείου του Πρωθυπουργού, επί δικτατορίας.
Εν συντομία, συμμετείχε στη δράση της οργάνωσης ΔΕΚΑ Κρήτης που είχα ιδρύσει μαζί με άλλους αγωνιστές, διέφυγε τη σύλληψη, απέκτησε ρόλο επί Ασλανίδη στον Παναθηναϊκό, καταδικάστηκε μεν σε ποινή φυλάκισης δύο ετών αλλά έμεινε μόνο την παραμονή της δίκης μας στη φυλακή, αφού του χορηγήθηκε, παρανόμως, αναστολή, δοθέντος ότι είχε καταδικαστεί προδικτατορικά δύο φορές για απάτη σε ποινή πάνω από έξι μήνες η καθεμία.
Μετά, μαζί με τον αδερφό του, Παύλο Τσίπρα (σ.σ. πατέρας του Πρωθυπουργού), που είχε συλληφθεί για λίγο διάστημα αλλά αφέθηκε ελεύθερος, πράγματι ανέλαβαν δημόσια έργα στην Κρήτη, πιθανόν και αλλού».
Στην απολογία του μάλιστα ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας είχε δηλώσει: «Μετάνιωσα για αυτό που έγινε και από τότε λέγω ότι αυτό που έγινε στην Ελλάδα ήταν αναγκαίο»
Τόσο ο Ιωαννίδης, λοιπόν, αφήνει υπόνοιες για το ρόλο του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα, και πώς γλίτωσε τη φυλακή, όσο και ο παπά Πέτρος Γαβαλάς που λέει ότι αυτός δεν τον εμπιστευόταν γιατί δεν τον ήξερε και απορούσε πώς έπαιρνε τόσα πολλά έργα από το χουντικό καθεστώς. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι σύμφωνα με τους ισολογισμούς της εταιρείας «Ηρακλής» της οικογένειας Τσίπρα στην τριετία 1971-1973 ο τζίρος ήταν πάνω από 33 εκατ. δραχμές, ποσό τεράστιο για τα δεδομένα της εποχής. Αν ισχύει μάλιστα η ανάληψη τόσων έργων αυτό έρχεται σε πλήρη αντίθεση με τα όσα πρόσφατα υποστήριξε και ο πρωθυπουργός αλλά και ο εξάδερφός του Γιώργος Τσίπρας ο οποίος είπε ότι ο θείος του και ο πατέρας του έπαιρναν έργα και προ Χούντας και μετά αντιμετώπισαν πολλά προβλήματα και αναγκάστηκαν να φύγουν.
Δεν πρέπει να ξεχνάμε επίσης την εξιστόρηση του Γιάννη Χαλκιαδάκη, εκδότη των «Ρεθυμνιώτικων Νέων» ο οποίος είχε πει ότι υπήρχε «Δούρειος Ιππος» στην οργάνωση.
Διαψεύδουν το ρόλο του «Δούρειου Ίππου».
Σε καμιά περίπτωση βεβαίως δεν αποδεικνύεται ο,τιδήποτε με αυτές τις μαρτυρίες. Υπήρξαν και στο παρελθόν αναφορές ότι ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας λειτούργησε ως «Δούρειος Ιππος» της Χούντας στην Κρήτη, ένας ισχυρισμός που καταρρίφθηκε πάντως από μαρτυρία γυναίκας από την Κρήτη που είπε ότι βοήθησε τον Ηρακλή Τσίπρα να πάρει δημόσιο έργο γιατί η Χούντα τον είχε κόψει.
Η Δέσποινα Σκαλοχωρίτου, μέλος της Διοικούσας Επιτροπής της ΕΔΑ τη δεκαετία του 1960 είπε ότι ο θείος του πρωθυπουργού της είχε ζητήσει βοήθεια για να μεσολαβήσει για το έργο Ηράκλειο – Ρέθυμνο.
Όμως, προσθετικά, οι μαρτυρίες των Ιωαννίδη, παπά Πέτρου και Χαλκιαδάκη, καθώς και οι ισολογισμοί της εταιρείας «Ηρακλής» σε συνδυασμό με τη θέση του θείου του Τσίπρα στον Παναθηναϊκό, δημιουργούν μείζονα ερωτήματα.
Όσο για τα οικονομικά της εταιρείας, σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα του «Βήματος της Κυριακής» το 1970 τα περιουσιακά στοιχεία της Ηρακλής (τεχνικός εξοπλισμός, ακίνητα κ.ά.) ανέρχονταν σε 19,3 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1971 ενισχύονται στα 26,4 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1972 φθάνουν τα 40,7 εκατ. δραχμές και το 1973 ξεπερνούν τα 57,1 εκατ. δραχμές. Αντίστοιχα και τα κέρδη ακολουθούν ανοδική πορεία, αν και το 1973 παρουσιάζουν κάμψη, λόγω όμως της υψηλής επίδοσης του 1972. Ειδικότερα, το 1971 τα κέρδη χρήσεως ανήλθαν στα 1,28 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1971 φθάνουν τα 2,81 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1972 «απογειώνονται» στα 21,9 εκατ. δραχμές, για να υποχωρήσουν το 1973 στα 7,2 εκατ. δραχμές. Ανάλογη πορεία κατέγραψαν και τα έσοδα της εταιρείας. Το 1970 ήταν 2,6 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1971 αυξήθηκαν σε 9,9 εκατ. δραχμές, το 1972 ενισχύθηκαν στα 32,6 εκατ. δραχμές, ενώ το 1973 υποχώρησαν στα 14,8 εκατ. δραχμές. Σε όλες τις χρήσεις, οι καταθέσεις και οι απαιτήσεις της εταιρείας κάλυπταν τις υποχρεώσεις προς τις τράπεζες.
Τίποτε, επομένως, δε δείχνει ότι η Χούντα «κυνήγησε» τους αδερφούς Τσίπρα. Το αντίθετο μάλιστα, φαίνεται να πήραν πολλά έργα και γι’ αυτό η απορία του παπά Πέτρου Γαβαλά για το πώς εμπιστεύτηκαν τον Ηρακλή Τσίπρα για να μπει στην οργάνωση.
Συγκλονίζει η περιγραφή.
Πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα είναι όλη η αφήγηση του παπά Πέτρου Γαβαλά για τα γεγονότα εκείνης της εποχής.
Όπως εξιστορεί, ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας τον βρήκε και με πρόσχημα μια βάφτιση που ήθελε να κάνει, αφού πρώτα του έκανε το σήμα της νίκης, τον οδήγησε στην ιστορική πλέον σύσκεψη πυρήνων αντίστασης στο Αγιασμάτσι, Μυλοποτάμου Ρεθύμνου τη νύχτα της 28ης Οκτωβρίου 1967.
Στην αφήγηση τονίζεται επίσης ότι πήγαν στο σπίτι του Τσίπρα όπου εκεί ήταν και κάποιος «Μήτσος», αντιστασιακός που έγινε στη συνέχεια «ρεμάλι της Χούντας».
Αφού πήγαν με το αυτοκίνητό του στο Αγιασμάτσι, στο σπίτι του Γιώργου του Ουρανού, εκεί, λέει ο παπά Πέτρος, ήταν και άλλοι αντιστασιακοί. Ο Τηλέμαχος Πλεύρης, ο Γιώργης Ξυλούρης, ο Φοίβος Ιωαννίδης, ο Γιάννης ο Χαλκιαδάκης, ο γυμνασιάρχης Σταμαθιουδάκης, ο πρώην βουλευτής του ΠΑΣΟΚ, Γ. Σκουλάκης, ο Γ. Γιαννόπουλος.
Εισηγητής ήταν ο ίδιος ο Τσίπρας ο οποίος σηκώθηκε και είπε ότι είναι ντροπή η Κρήτη να μένει με σταυρωμένα τα χέρια κι ότι πρέπει να γίνει μια αντιστασιακή ενέργεια με την ευκαιρία της άφιξης του βασιλιά Κωνσταντίνου και των Παπαδόπουλου, Παττακού, Μακαρέζου, κλπ. Η πρόταση ήταν είτε να τους απαγάγουν και από τον βασιλιά και να ζητήσουν να ορκίσει δημοκρατική κυβέρνηση είτε να τους σκοτώσουν.
Στη διήγησή του ο παπά Πέτρος λέει ότι ο Ιωαννίδης με τους δικούς του είχαν μια αψιμαχία με τον Ξυλούρη, γιατί οι πρώτοι γνώριζαν τον Τσίπρα, όχι όμως και οι άλλοι.
Ο παπά Πέτρος, προφανώς επειδή δεν είχε καμιά εμπιστοσύνη, λέει: «Με είχαν βάλει πρόεδρο της σύσκεψης, λόγω του σχήματος και για να δω έκανα κάτι. Όταν ο Τσίπρας έφτασε στο σημείο που πρέπει να σκοτώσουμε σηκώθηκα και είπα ότι δεν μπορώ. Εγώ εργάζομαι με άλλο τρόπο, αναίμακτο κι όταν κινηθεί ο λαός εν σώματι έστω και παθητικά να αντισταθεί. Αυτό προτείνω, είμαι πρόθυμος να σκοτώσω Γερμανούς, αλλά δεν μπορώ να σκοτώσω Έλληνες».
Όπως λέει την επόμενη άρχισε το «ανεμάζωμα». Η συμφωνία ήταν να μην κάνει κανείς τίποτε, αλλά ο Ιωαννίδης πήγε στο Ηράκλειο και έβαλε μερικές κροτίδες και έριχνε με όπλο. «Δεν μπορώ να καταλάβω πώς τα έκανε αυτά ένας επιστήμονας», αναρωτιέται ο παπάς.
Στη συνέχεια ήρθε η σύλληψη του ίδιου και των άλλων αντιστασιακών που για πολλούς ιστορικούς ήταν αποτέλεσμα… προδοσίας.
Η σύλληψη
Όπως έγραψε πέρυσι ο Γιώργος Ουρανός, ιατρός και συγγενής του πρωτεργάτη της αντίστασης στην Κρήτη, Γ. Ουρανού: «Για κακή τους τύχη δύο ημέρες μετά την Παγκρήτια αυτή σύσκεψη, σε μια βομβιστική ενέργεια μελών της οργάνωσης στο Ηράκλειο, συνελήφθησαν από την Ασφάλεια Ηρακλείου τρεις από αυτούς, και στη συνέχεια ξεκίνησε πογκρόμ συλλήψεων. Σε λίγες ημέρες είχαν συλληφθεί όλα τα μέλη της οργάνωσης.
Αμέσως ξεκίνησαν οι ανακρίσεις με τις γνωστές απάνθρωπες μεθόδους της χούντας. Με βάση την αναφορά της Ασφάλειας Ηρακλείου που φέρει ημερομηνία 22 Νοεμβρίου ’67 συντάχθηκε το παραπεμπτικό βούλευμα του Φρουράρχου Χανίων προς τον Βασιλικό Επίτροπο του ΕΚΤΑΚΤΟΥ ΣΤΡΑΤΟΔΙΚΕΙΟΥ ΧΑΝΙΩΝ με ημερομηνία 29 Νοεμβρίου του ’67.
Στις 22 Δεκεμβρίου ο δικτάτορας Παπαδόπουλος εξήγγειλε γενική αμνηστία.
Η νέα δίκη για τους αγωνιστές της Δ.Ε.Κ.Α. ορίζεται για την 1η Φεβρουαρίου ’68. Οι ποινές που επιβλήθηκαν στους 24 καταδικασθέντες αγωνιστές ήταν, από 11 χρόνια φυλάκιση για τον Φοίβο Ιωαννίδη, 5 χρόνια για τον Θανάση Σκουλά, 4 χρόνια για τον Γιώργη Ουρανό και τον Γιώργη Γιαννόπουλο, 3,5 χρόνια για τον Δημήτρη Ξυριτάκη, 2 χρόνια για τον Γιάννη Χαλκιαδάκη, τον Στρατή Μεσσήνη, τον Μανώλη Παπαιωάννου, και τον παπα-Πέτρο Γαβαλά και λιγότερα χρόνια για τους υπόλοιπους.
Υπενθυμίζεται εδώ ότι σύμφωνα με τον Φοίβο Ιωαννίδη ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας έμεινε στη φυλακή μόνο την ημέρα της δίκης αφού του δόθηκε παράνομα αναστολή.
Τα βασανιστήρια στον παπά Πέτρο
Ο παπά Πέτρος Γαβαλάς διηγείται ότι έμεινε για δεκαέξι μήνες στη φυλακή και κατόπιν απελευθερώθηκε και περιγράφει ο ίδιος τη σύλληψη και φυλάκισή του σε σημείωμα που κατάφερε να παραδώσει το Μάρτιο του 1969 στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή για τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα. Το σημείωμα αυτά κατάφερε να το περάσει η παπαδιά του βάζοντάς το στο μπούστο της.
«Με συνέλαβε η Αστυνομία τη νύχτα της 9ης προς τη 10η Νοεμβρίου 1967. Με πήγαν στη Χωροφυλακή Ηρακλείου, όπου με τις πυτζάμες μου παρουσιάστηκα μπροστά σε έναν αξιωματικό ονόματι Καν…, που με ρώτησε σε τόνο αυστηρό: Παπά, τους ευλόγησες εκείνους εκεί, τους ευλόγησες με αγιασμό;. Δεν αποκρίθηκα. Ύστερα από λίγο, απαίτησε να μιλήσω. Όταν αρνήθηκα να του δώσω τα ονόματα ορισμένων προσώπων και δεν μπορούσα να του πω πράγματα για τα οποία όντως δεν γνώριζα, άρχισε να με χτυπά. Διέταξε τους άνδρες του να μου περάσουν χειροπέδες και με πήραν και με πέταξαν μέσα σ’ ένα κλειστό φορτηγό.
Αργότερα με οδήγησαν σε ένα σκοτεινό δωμάτιο, όπου με διέταξαν να στέκομαι σε στάση προσοχής βλέποντας τον τοίχο.
Έμεινα έτσι γύρω στις 30 ώρες και, όταν τους ζήτησα να μου ελευθερώσουν τα χέρια για να ουρήσω, αρνήθηκαν. (Αυτοί ήταν άνθρωποι που δεν γνώριζα – ήταν ντυμένοι με πολιτικά.). Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν ότι αναγκάστηκα να ανακουφιστώ μέσα στα ίδια μου τα ρούχα τρεις φορές. Όταν πια στο τέλος δεν μπορούσα να κρατηθώ άλλο στα πόδια μου από την κούραση, γονάτισα. Ο φρουρός με διέταξε να σηκωθώ, αλλά αφού δεν μπορούσα να εκτελέσω τη διαταγή του, μου έδωσε μια σπρωξιά και σωριάστηκα στο πάτωμα. Τότε, σκόπιμα ή όχι, πάτησε το αριστερό μου πόδι, ανοίγοντάς μου ένα ελαφρύ τραύμα. Ακόμη δεν κατάφερνα να σηκωθώ στα πόδια μου κι έτσι μ’ έπιασε απ’ τα μαλλιά και με ταρακούνησε με τόση βία, που τούφες απ’ τα μαλλιά μου έμειναν στο χέρι του, ενώ εγώ, γεμάτος θλίψη, έστρεψα τα μάτια μου προς το μέρος του ψάχνοντας για συμπαράσταση και συμπόνια και εισέπραξα αντ’ αυτών χυδαίες βρισιές. Την ίδια στιγμή έπιασε το κεφάλι μου και το χτύπησε στον τοίχο. Έχασα τις αισθήσεις μου.
Όταν συνήλθα αργότερα, το τύμπανο του αριστερού μου αυτιού είχε σπάσει και αιμορραγούσε. Είκοσι επτά ημέρες αργότερα μεταφέρθηκα από τα υπόγεια κρατητήρια του Ηρακλείου και της Ασφάλειας Χανίων στο Αναμορφωτήριο Χανίων. Ζήτησα ένα γιατρό που να είναι ειδικός, αλλά μόνον ο γιατρός της φυλακής μού έδωσε φάρμακα, που προφανώς δεν ήταν τα ενδεδειγμένα διότι το πύον συνέχιζε να τρέχει από το αυτί μου επί επτά μήνες. Μόνο μετά τη μεταφορά μου στο Ηράκλειο και αφού με είδε ένας ωτορινολαρυγγολόγος, άρχισε η αγωγή για τη θεραπεία του αυτιού μου.
Από τους αξιωματικούς της Χωροφυλακής που ανέφερα πιο πάνω κατάφερα να ανακαλύψω το όνομα του λοχία Τρ…, ο οποίος μου απηύθυνε τις φοβερότερες προσβολές, όπως: Είσαι άξιος μόνο για να σε φτύνει κανείς, αδίσταχτε σατανά, αγύρτη, δειλέ, σκύλε κλπ, και: Αν είχες συνείδηση, θα έπρεπε να καθαιρέσεις ο ίδιος τον εαυτό σου από παπά αμέσως. Ένας χωροφύλακας, ο Χουλάκης, με απειλούσε συνεχώς λέγοντας: Θα σε κάνω να ξεράσεις όσα ξέρεις, σκύλε. Μην προσπαθείς να παίξεις το γενναίο σε μένα. Θα σου ξεριζώσω τα γένια τρίχα τρίχα και θα σου βγάλω τα δόντια ένα ένα. Θα σου τραβήξω μια στο στομάχι, που τ’ άντερά σου θα σου βγούνε από το στόμα».
Η οργάνωση
Σύμφωνα με την περιγραφή του Γιώργου Ουρανού, η οργάνωση Δ.Ε.Κ.Α. συστήθηκε πολύ ενωρίς, μόλις ένα μήνα μετά την επιβολή της δικτατορίας.
Πρωτεργάτες της οργάνωσης ήταν από όλη τη Κρήτη. Η οργάνωση αποτελούνταν σίγουρα από αυτά τα 29 άτομα (που δικάστηκαν) στον στενό της πυρήνα που όμως υπήρχε και ένας ευρύτερος κύκλος συνδέσμων. Από το Ρέθυμνο, στους Πρωτεργάτες της οργάνωσης ήταν ο Γιώργης Ουρανός αργότερα πρόεδρος της Ένωσης κιτροπαραγωγών Κρήτης που δεν είναι πια στη ζωή, ο Γιάννης Χαλκιαδάκης απόφοιτος της Παιδαγωγικής Ακαδημίας και εκδότης των «Ρεθεμνιώτικων Νέων», ο Γιώργης Περάκης δικηγόρος και αργότερα βουλευτής του ΠΑΣΟΚ και ο Μανούσος Σταμαθιουδάκης συνταξιούχος Γυμνασιάρχης 66 ετών που ήταν και ο μεγαλύτερος σε ηλικία από όλα τα μέλη της οργάνωσης.
Από τα Χανιά στους Πρωτεργάτες ήταν ο Γιάννης Βαλυράκης πρώην βουλευτής της Ένωσης Κέντρου.
Από το Ηράκλειο, στους Πρωτεργάτες ήταν οι πρώην βουλευτές της Ένωσης Κέντρου, Τηλέμαχος Πλεύρης και Μενέλαος Ξυλούρης, ο Θανάσης Σκουλάς πρώην Δήμαρχος Κορυδαλλού και αργότερα βουλευτής του ΠΑΣΟΚ Ηρακλείου, καθώς και οι δικηγόροι Δημήτρης Ξυριτάκης και Μανώλης Παπαϊωάννου.
Και από το Λασίθι στους Πρωτεργάτες ήταν ο Φοίβος Ιωαννίδης δικηγόρος και αργότερα βουλευτής του ΠΑΣΟΚ Λασιθίου.
Τα πιο νέα μέλη της οργάνωσης ήταν οι μαθητές Γυμνασίου, τότε 17 ετών και οι δυο τους, ο Μιχάλης Σάλλας αργότερα οικονομολόγος καθηγητής της Παντείου και Πρόεδρος της Τράπεζας Πειραιώς και ο Κώστας Πιλαφτσής αργότερα κτηνίατρος.
Επίσης από τα επίλεκτα και αξιοσέβαστα μέλη της οργάνωσης ήταν ο παπα-Πέτρος Γαβαλάς από τον Άγιο Θωμά Ηρακλείου.
Εκτός από αυτούς που αναφέρθηκαν παραπάνω, μέλη της οργάνωσης ήταν και οι ακόλουθοι:
Από τα Χανιά, ο Τζανακάκης ή Δροσερός Ιωάννης και ο Μαστοράκης Ιωάννης.
Από τα Ανώγεια, ο Σκουλάς Ιωάννης και ο Καλομοίρης Θανάσης.
Από το Ηράκλειο, ο Γεργιαννάκης Εμανουήλ, ο Γιαννόπουλος Γεώργιος, ο Γιαμαλάκης Νικόλαος, ο Τζαγκαράκης Γεώργιος, ο Τσίπρας Ηρακλής, ο Μεσσήνης Στρατής, ο Κουκιάδης Αριστείδης, ο Περάκης Παύλος, ο Σημαιάκης Εμμανουήλ και ο Κάβος Κωνσταντίνος.
Και από το Λασίθι ο Ρηγάκης Δημήτριος.
Μετά τις σαφείς αναφορές του πρώην υφυπουργού και βουλευτή, Φοίβου Ιωαννίδη, για τη δράση και τη στάση του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα, θείου του πρωθυπουργού, στα χρόνια της Χούντας, μια ακόμη συγκλονιστική μαρτυρία φέρνουν στο φως αφού βέβαια πρώτη την έφερε η εφημερίδα ΜΑΚΕΛΕΙΟ και το makeleio.gr

«Καρφί» του Ασλανίδη ο θείος, μουλωχτός βαστάζος ο πατέρας
- Κατάθεση του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα – αδερφού και συνεργάτη του πατέρα του πρωθυπουργού- στο Στρατοδικείο Χανίων, όπου κάνει δήλωση μετανοίας στο καθεστώς της 21ης Απριλίου και «καρφώνει» τα υπόλοιπα μέλη της οργάνωσης ΔΕΚΑ
Μπορεί η οικογενειακή ευθύνη να μην είναι υποχρεωτική και μεταδοτική στα σφάλματα και στα αμαρτήματα του παρελθόντος, ωστόσο, ο πρωθυπουργός και η κυβέρνηση αλλά και τα ξαδέρφια και όλο το κακό συναπάντημα που μάζεψαν στην κρατική και πρόστυχη ΕΡΤ, όφειλαν τουλάχιστον να μιλήσουν με αποδείξεις για τον βίο και την πολιτεία του θείου τού Αλέξη Τσίπρα, Ηρακλή, κατά την περίοδο της Επταετίας, αλλά και για τον ίδιο τον πατέρα του πρωθυπουργού.
Πάρτε μια μικρή γεύση από την απολογία του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα στο Στρατοδικείο, την οποία το «Μακελειό» θα δημοσιεύσει ολόκληρη τις επόμενες ημέρες. Μια απολογία την οποία έκρυψαν, επιδίωξαν να την παραποιήσουν και να τη διαστρεβλώσουν για να μην μάθει ο λαός πως πλούτισαν τα αδερφάκια την περίοδο της 21ης Απριλίου και του Παττακού με το μυστρί, ο οποίος ορθώς επέλεγε εργολάβους για να φτιάξει την Ελλάδα. Τα αδερφάκια, ωστόσο, μετά το 1974 την έκαναν γυριστή και το έπαιξαν αντιστασιακοί, όπως είπε και ο κύριος πρωθυπουργός, στη δική του δημόσια απολογία.
Ο θείος απολογείται για τις εκρηκτικές ύλες της «αντίστασης» κατά της στρατιωτικής κυβέρνησης, στην Κρήτη
«Εγνώρισα τον Ιωαννίδην (σ.σ.: τον Φοίβο Ιωαννίδη) διότι ήσαν πλησίον τα γραφεία μας. Μου είπε ότι οργανώνει μια συγκέντρωσιν εις το Ρέθυμνον και να πάω. Εγώ εδέχθην και πήρα μαζί μου τον Ιερέα Γαβαλά και τον Ρηγάκη. Εγώ ταξίδεψα εις την Ευρώπην και συνάντησα τον Βαρδινογιάννη και τον Νικολαϊδη. Όταν επέστρεψα εις το Ηράκλειον συνάντησα τον Ιωαννίδη και του είπα ότι τους συνάντησα στο εξωτερικόν. Στην συγκέντρωση δεν γνώριζα παρά ελάχιστους. Ευθύς ως άρχισε η συγκέντρωσιν διεφώνησον. Πάντως μετάνιωσα γι’ αυτό (σ.σ.: εννοεί τη συμμετοχή του στην ομάδα των αντικαθεστωτικών) και από τότε λέγω ότι αυτό που έγινε εις στην Ελλάδα, ήτο αναγκαστικό» (σ.σ.: εννοεί την ανάληψη της εξουσίας από τους συνταγματάρχες).
Τα ανταλλάγματα…
Διαβάζουμε ακόμη στο isxis blogspot, την απόφαση με αριθμό 1/68 του έκτακτου Στρατοδικείου Χανίων.
– ο εισαγγελέας προτείνει ποινή φυλακίσεως 2 έτη, με αναστολή υπό όρους.
– το δικαστήριο αποφασίζει την καταδίκη του σε φυλάκιση τριών ετών και αφαιρεί τον ένα μήνα προφυλάκισής του. Πουθενά δεν αναφέρει περί αναστολής, αλλά σε αυτό μπορεί να κάνουμε και λάθος.
Tο θέμα είναι ότι ο Τσίπρας Ηρακλής, τελικώς, δεν φυλακίστηκε και άλλοι από τους συλληφθέντες, για τον ίδιο λόγο, έχουν βάσιμες υπόνοιες και υποψίες ότι ο Τσίπρας έδρασε ως βαλτός για τον εντοπισμό και την εξουδετέρωσή τους. Τους «κάρφωσε», ήταν χαφιές.
Η «αμοιβή» του Ηρακλή Τσίπρα ήταν τα δημόσια έργα και η τοποθέτησή του, στον Παναθηναϊκό.
Σημειώνουμε ότι από τους δικασθέντες, τότε, ο Ηρακλής Τσίπρας ήταν ο μόνος που μεταμελήθηκε. Ήταν δηλωσίας.
Ίσως κι αυτό να έπαιξε τον ρόλο του, με την έννοια ότι οι συνταγματάρχες τον είχαν και τον επιδείκνυαν ως παράδειγμα προς μίμηση για κάθε αντιδρώντα της εποχής και γι’ αυτό φρόντισαν να τον ενισχύσουν και να τον αποκαταστήσουν με κρατικά συμβόλαια δημοσίων έργων και θέσεις αίγλης στον Παναθηναϊκό. Καταλάβατε, πόσο καθαροί, Αριστεροί και ιδεολόγοι ήταν όλοι στο σόι του κυρίου πρωθυπουργού; Γι’ αυτό αποφεύγει αυτήν τη συζήτηση σαν τον διάβολο το λιβάνι. Τον Μητσοτάκη, μπορεί να τον σταματήσει και να του «μελώσει» την προοπτική της πρωθυπουργίας, εμάς όμως όχι. Κατάλαβες, κύριε πρωθυπουργέ; Η αλήθεια πονάει. Και θα σε πονέσουμε όπως πόνεσες τον ελληνικό πατριωτικό χώρο.
